2026 Comet Class Association Championship

A joint statement from the Comet Association and The Nottingham Sailing Club:

Nottingham Sailing Club sail on the River Trent. Consequently, their water has limited width, although significantly wider than our other non-tidal river Opens at Severn and Bristol Avon. However, as we are expecting a large entry, it will be necessary to sail in flights. Therefore, we have agreed with Nottingham to use a different format for the Championship this year.

The event will consist of a Qualification Series followed by a Final Series. The Qualification series will be sailed with flights with results based on times much like our non-tidal river Opens. The results of this series will be used to divide the competitors into Gold and Silver fleets for the Final Series. These will race as separate fleets in the Final Series which will determine the final positions in the Championships. Therefore, no timings will be needed for the Final Series and your position on the final line will determine your results. Full details will be published in the Notice of Race in due course.

We hope this format will also encourage less experienced sailors to compete. If you’re not usually at the top of the fleet you may have a good chance of winning the Silver fleet (or even the Bronze fleet if the number of entries is high enough)!
